Twenty-three life-size whale models hang in a vast darkened hall near Reykjavík's Old Harbour, each cast and hand-painted after a specific individual animal documented in Icelandic waters. The centerpiece is a 25-meter blue whale — standing beneath it at full scale is a different experience than any photograph conveys. Orca, sperm whale, the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale, and smaller dolphins fill out the collection. This is Europe's largest whale exhibition. Audio guides in multiple languages cover biology, behavior, and conservation for each species. Interactive stations play whale calls and map migration routes. The exhibition addresses whaling history and current population pressures directly, without softening either subject. The museum is at Fiskislóð 23–25 in the Grandi harbor district, open daily year-round 10:00–17:00. It pairs well with a whale-watching boat tour from the Old Harbour — the exhibit gives you identification and context that makes time on the water more meaningful. Tickets run around 4,000 ISK for adults; budget about an hour inside.
