wikimediaThe centrepiece of the Reykjavík Maritime Museum is the Óðinn, a 900-tonne coast guard vessel moored at the Grandi harbour that visitors can board and explore — bridge, engine room, crew quarters. The Óðinn became a national symbol during the Cod Wars of the 1970s, when Iceland confronted the Royal Navy over fishing limits and effectively won. Guided ship tours run daily at 13:00, 14:00, and 15:00 from March through October and carry a separate fee on top of museum entry (around 1,700 ISK for the museum, 1,300 ISK for the ship tour). The indoor galleries cover fishing techniques, boat construction, and maritime accidents, with interactive exhibits that hold children's attention well. The building is a converted fish-freezing plant on Grandagarður, part of the same harbour strip as the Whales of Iceland exhibition and several good restaurants. Budget around 90 minutes if you want the ship tour alongside the galleries. Children under 18 and seniors get free museum admission. The Grandi area is an easy walk or cycle from central Reykjavík.
