Pollurinn
Westfjords
wikimediaAbout four kilometres outside the small village of Tálknafjörður, tucked against a hillside with a view down the fjord, Pollurinn is a set of four concrete pools fed by the same geothermal source that heats the village's homes. Temperatures range from around 36 to 46 degrees Celsius across the pools. There is no dedicated cooler swimming pool — just the four hot pots at varying intensities, with a hose available to dial things back when needed. The setup is simple: a small changing cabin, an outdoor shower, no toilets, no café, no fee, no booking. Bring your own towel and swimwear. There is no formal signage from the road, so use GPS (65.6491, -23.8945) or ask locally. In winter, soaking here while northern lights move over the fjord is one of the better arguments for visiting the Westfjords. Tálknafjörður is roughly five hours from Reykjavík, so this fits naturally into a multi-day loop through the region rather than a standalone day trip.
