N1 - Höfn
Southeast
unsplashHöfn's N1, on Vesturbraut in the centre of town, is one of the more strategically placed fuel stops on the Ring Road. The town sits at the southeast edge of Vatnajökull — Europe's largest glacier — and marks the end of a long, thinly serviced stretch from Vík. The station is open daily, roughly 8:00–22:00 on weekdays, with adjusted weekend hours, and offers fuel, a grill, snacks, a car wash, and Wi-Fi. Höfn is known for its langoustine — what locals call "lobster" — and several restaurants a short walk from the N1 specialize in it. Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is about 80 km west, roughly an hour's drive; Diamond Beach is just across the bridge from it. Before continuing east from Höfn, fill the tank regardless of your current level. The road into the Eastfjords is scenic but services are sparse, and the stretch between Höfn and Djúpivogur is one of the longest gaps without a reliable fuel stop on the entire southeastern route.
