Laugardalslaug Main
Capital Region
wikimediaLaugardalslaug is the largest swimming complex in Reykjavík — a good introduction to how Icelanders actually use their pools, less as exercise venues and more as daily social infrastructure. The facility has a 50-meter outdoor heated pool, a 50-meter indoor pool, a 25-meter children's pool, several hot pots at varying temperatures, a sauna, and an 84-meter water slide. The hot pots are the real draw for most visitors: communal tubs where conversations start without much prompting. Admission runs 1,500 ISK for adults; children under ten get in free. The pre-swim shower (undressed, with soap) is mandatory and standard at every Icelandic pool — follow the signs in the changing rooms. Towels and swimsuits are available to rent. The complex sits in the Laugardalur park area, about 15 minutes from downtown Reykjavík on foot, by bike, or city bus. Hours are 6:30am–10pm weekdays and 8am–9pm weekends. The pool closes roughly a week in late August for maintenance. Weekday mornings are noticeably quieter than weekend afternoons.
