Krauma
West
KraumaKrauma sits directly beside Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring, which produces around 180 litres of near-boiling water per second. That water is too hot at source, so the facility cools it with cold glacial water and distributes it across six pools — five heated, one cold — ranging from about 6°C to 42°C. No chemicals are added; it is simply natural geothermal water managed for bathing. The design is contemporary, with warm timber and large windows over surrounding lava fields. Two steam rooms and a relaxation room with loungers complete the setup, and an on-site restaurant focuses on locally sourced food. Advance booking is recommended on weekends. Krauma is about 97 kilometres from Reykjavík — roughly 1.5 hours — and sits minutes from the historic medieval site at Reykholt, making a combined stop practical on a West Iceland or Snæfellsnes loop. Adult admission runs around 7,900 ISK. Open year-round.
