Hrunalaug
Golden Circle
wikimediaHrunalaug is a small geothermal pool on private farmland a few kilometers north of Flúðir, comprising three separate pools fed by natural hot springs. The oldest section dates to around 1890, built for laundry and bathing; a second pool from 1935 once served for sheep washing. The current visitor pool was added in 2017 and renovated in 2023. Water temperature holds at around 37–38°C year-round, and the pools are small — the larger one fits roughly seven people comfortably — so come early or late in the day to avoid sharing with a crowd. Admission runs around 3,000 ISK per adult. Two small changing huts are on site, but there are no showers or lockers, and facilities are deliberately rustic. A service building near parking has toilets. The access road from Flúðir is short and manageable in a standard car — follow signs to the farm Ás. The pool is open year-round. Winter and early spring visits are particularly good, when steam rises off the water against cold air and the site is far less busy than in summer.
