Forest Lagoon (Skógarböðin) is a geothermal spa that opened in May 2022 in Vaðlaskógur, a birch and pine forest on the eastern shore of Eyjafjörður fjord, 3.6 km from central Akureyri. The hot spring source was discovered accidentally in 2015 when workers drilling the Vaðlaheiðargöng road tunnel struck a naturally hot geothermal spring. The spa is designed by Basalt Architects, the same firm behind the Blue Lagoon expansion, and features two outdoor infinity pools held at around 38–40°C, a sauna, a cold plunge pool, and swim-up bars. The larger pool covers 530 m² and the smaller 330 m², together accommodating up to 200 guests at a time. Getting there is straightforward: the facility is just off Route 1 (the Ring Road) with a free car park on site. Tickets are not tied to a time slot. The base adult entry (the Warm tier) costs 7,490 ISK and covers pool access only; packages that include a towel and a drink start at 10,150 ISK. Towel rental alone is 1,400 ISK. Children aged 6–15 pay 3,790 ISK; under-5s are free. Payment is accepted in Icelandic currency on-site, so bring a card — only ISK is accepted at the facility. The setting distinguishes the spa from Iceland's other commercial geothermal pools: the tree canopy provides wind shelter and a forested backdrop, and on clear days the view stretches across Eyjafjörður, Iceland's longest fjord. The Forest Bistro serves food from roughly 11am to 8pm. Winter visits are popular, with snow-covered trees surrounding the warm water, though the pools operate identically year-round.
