The color of Brúarfoss stops people: the water runs a vivid, saturated blue that looks almost artificial. The shade comes from fine glacial silt suspended in the flow — the river traces back to Langjökull glacier, and the ground-up rock powder scatters light toward an intense turquoise. The effect is strongest on overcast days and in the narrower chutes above the main drop where depth concentrates the color. Getting here is simple since a purpose-built car park opened on Road 37 in spring 2023, between Laugarvatn and Geysir. From the car park it's a few minutes' walk to the falls. The old route crossed private farmland and is now closed to the public; use the official car park. There is a 750 ISK parking fee. The trail closes in winter; a 4x4 is advisable outside summer months. Brúarfoss is about 95 kilometers east of Reykjavík and roughly 15 kilometers from Geysir, making it an easy addition to a Golden Circle day. Keep well back from the river's edge — the current is fast, the banks can be slippery, and the water is dangerously cold.
